The Coat That Hides All Sins

When I saw this coat in the Topshop sale at £30, down from £110, it was an absolute no brainer. The reason I knew I had to have this coat was not the gorgeous heritage check print, or the casual boyfriend fit, but in fact the length. I have long been searching for the perfect maxi length coat, and thanks to Topshop my prayers were answered.

This was my favourite outfit to shoot to date. The coat has so much character and moves so beautifully that it didn’t take long to get great shots of it. It was also very difficult to pick which photos I liked the most, because the coat looked amazing in all of them. For this reason, I don’t think much needs to be said in this post. I will leave you with just three simple reasons why a maxi coat is a wardrobe essential for all of us.

One. As coats are typically made with heavy material, designing this one in a maxi length means the fabric flows and falls beautifully.

Two. Being a serial wearer of culottes, this length is perfect for me; the widest part of the coat and the widest part of the trousers (the hem on both) sit in the same place, creating a sharp, harmonious silhoutte. As both items are made of structured material, they compliment each other like a match made in heaven.

Three. This show-stopping, statement coat grabs attention, meaning that it hides all manner of sins. It means you can run to the shop in your pyjamas, but worn under this coat, no one would be any the wiser. It means you can wear those jeans that have been a little too tight since Christmas, with the top button stretched to its limits, without anybody seeing. It also means you can drop your latte right down the front of your jumper and again, this coat has got your back.

What’s not to love?
