Dressing for the British Summer

In Britain, its not summer until it just is. You leave the house one morning in your favourite jumper but it’s bikini weather by lunch time. Didn’t get the memo? Me neither! To top it off, Britain is extremely on and off with its summer status, giving us tropical heat and sunshine on Monday morning only for it to be monsoon season by the end of the week. If you’re anything like me, you’re completely thrown at this time of the year, wondering whether to pack away their jumpers or to put three of them on. I too found myself in this predicament when planning this outfit. I am still not over my winter boots, and can’t bring myself to put them away for six months. Not just yet. But at the same time I’m feeling excitement for the new season and all the fashion opportunities to come. As I am going through my boxes of summer clothes, not opened since last September, my mind is racing with outfit ideas and even making plans just so I have the right occasions to wear them to. So this outfit is a bit of both. It is nostalgia for the seasons we are leaving behind (RIP A/W you were good to me) mixed with the buzz of new beginnings and the promise of a great summer. If that isn’t transitional fashion then by golly I don’t know what is.
